Christine Holvick is one of the most distinguished musicians in the Santa Barbara region, captivating audiences with her musical prowess since early childhood. Her musical quest began at the age of six, fueled by a deep ambition to become a concert harpist — an ambition she has fulfilled many times over.
Education
Christine's education took root at the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific in 1971, where she pursued her Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance, graduating magna cum laude. She then journeyed to the Eduard Van Beinum Institute in the Netherlands, studying under the Principal Harpist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Madame Phia Berghout, and renowned soprano Madame Dora Lindeman. She later earned a Master of Music in Jazz Studies with highest honors from the University of Southern California.
Professional Journey
Returning to San Francisco in 1976, Christine founded Holvick Harp Productions and quickly established herself as a sought-after performer at iconic venues including the Hyatt Regency and St. Francis hotels. She served as Principal Harpist with the Pacific Philharmonic for five seasons while touring in a flute and harp duo and the Sierra Ensemble Quintet.
From 1978 to 1981, Christine embarked on an extraordinary venture, living aboard a cruise ship for a cumulative sixteen months, presenting nightly recitals and lecture demonstrations.
Santa Barbara & Teaching
In 1984, Christine made Santa Barbara her home, where she held the position of Adjunct Professor of Harp at Westmont College in Montecito for twelve years. She also served as President of the American Harp Society for the Santa Barbara chapter for a decade. Certified in the Suzuki method, Christine teaches students as young as two or three years old through to advanced adult performers.
Compositions & Versatility
Christine's highly creative original compositions and arrangements add distinction to her jazz, pop, and classical performances alike. Her album Journey Through the Inside Passage showcases original compositions inspired by the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest.
